Is Freepik now Magnific? What changed, and what didn't
Yes. Freepik relaunched as Magnific on 28 April 2026: same company, same team, same platform, under a new name at magnific.com. Your login, subscription, downloads, licences and API key all carried over. This guide sets out, from Magnific's own pages as of 10 October 2026, what stayed the same, what changed, and what has been added since.
Yes: Freepik became Magnific on 28 April 2026
If you’ve gone looking for Freepik’s AI tools and landed on a site called Magnific, you’re in the right place. Magnific’s announcement, Freepik becomes Magnific, published on 28 April 2026, says it plainly: “Today, Freepik becomes Magnific.” Its page for existing users, Freepik is now Magnific, adds that it’s the same company, the same team and the same platform, and that nothing has been replaced or shut down.
The new name wasn’t picked from nowhere. Magnific’s history of the company (26 June 2026) explains that Freepik started in Málaga in 2010 as a search engine for free graphics, and in May 2024 bought Magnific, an AI upscaler popular with designers. For two years the two brands ran side by side, Freepik as the stock library and Magnific as the upscaler. Chief executive Joaquín Cuenca put the problem simply: “People saw fragments: Freepik as a stock bank, Magnific as an upscaler.” The rename makes the whole platform one name: stock, AI generation for image, video, audio and 3D, upscaling and editing, together.

What stayed the same
Magnific’s page for Freepik users is clear that the change is the name, not your account. Here’s what it says carried over:
| What Magnific says | |
|---|---|
| Your login | magnific.com accepts your existing email, password or social login |
| Your subscription | Your plan, billing cycle and payment method carry over automatically |
| Your work | Projects, generated images and videos, downloads, collections and history are all preserved |
| The stock library | All 250 million and more photos, vectors, illustrations, icons, 3D, video, audio, templates and fonts are still there |
| Licences | Every licence from your Freepik downloads remains valid |
| Teams | The same seats, credits and admin panel |
| Enterprise | Your contract, terms, service levels and pricing are unchanged |
| The API | api.freepik.com and api.magnific.com both work, with the same key; old endpoints keep working for at least 6 months |
| The mobile app | The same app, with a new name and icon |
| The AI tools | Every AI tool from Freepik is on magnific.com; “Nothing has been removed” |
If something looks different, it’s most likely the address and the branding. Sign in at magnific.com with the details you already use. For anything that doesn’t match, Magnific points to support@magnific.com or the contact form at magnific.com/ai/support.
What changed, and what’s been added since
The visible changes on the day were the name, the address and a new visual identity, made with the agency Area17. The bigger changes have come in the months since, as Magnific has added to the platform:
- June 2026: Agents, MCP and Flows. Announced at Upscale Conf in San Francisco, according to the company’s history: agents that keep project memory and brand context, an MCP connector that brings the platform into Claude or ChatGPT, and Flows, which turn a workflow into one button a team can press.
- Magnific One and Brand Kit. Magnific’s own image model with what it calls art direction built in. You set a Brand Kit once (palette, typography, imagery and tone), explore drafts, then finish the one you want, fixing type, colour and text without generating again.
- September 2026: Magnific Desktop. A native app for macOS and Windows, launched on 8 September 2026, that syncs a project to a folder on your computer and sends notifications when a long job finishes.
If you’re weighing Magnific against other platforms now that it covers so much, our guide to Magnific or Higgsfield sets the two side by side.
Is Magnific free?
This is one of the most searched questions about the change. Magnific’s pricing page, read on 10 October 2026, lists paid plans for individuals and teams, starting with Premium, each with a yearly allowance of credits and a commercial AI licence. It refers to Free stock content as well as Premium stock content, but doesn’t list a free plan for the AI tools. Plans and prices change, so check the page on the day; prices there exclude VAT and local taxes.
The rename itself didn’t change what you pay: Magnific says existing subscriptions carried on with the same plan, billing cycle and payment method.
Keeping your Freepik and Magnific work safe
Everything you made with Freepik’s AI tools is still in your account at magnific.com. A rename is a good moment to check that the work that matters to you also exists somewhere you control, because a platform’s library lasts only as long as your account and plan do. Our guide to where AI tools save your images covers what that means across platforms, and the same habit applies here: download what you keep, when you make it.
That’s the habit we built BosOn around. It’s a desktop app for Windows and Mac that keeps everything you make with AI in one library on your own computer, whichever tool made it. Magnific isn’t connected to BosOn yet; it’s listed as coming on our integrations page. Until then, drop your Magnific downloads into BosOn, or link the folder Magnific Desktop syncs to, and new files in it come into your library when BosOn next checks it.

BosOn is independent and isn’t affiliated with Magnific. It’s in early access.
