Leonardo AI or Higgsfield: which suits which creator?
Leonardo suits people who start from images: its own Lucid models, training your own style, editing and upscaling, with a long list of video models and apps for phones and Apple chip Macs. Higgsfield suits people who start from video and ads, with Cinema Studio, Marketing Studio and Soul ID. This guide sets them side by side from their own pages, as of 10 October 2026.
One starts from the image, the other from the shot
Leonardo and Higgsfield both give you dozens of AI models for pictures and video under one plan, so they end up compared. The useful difference is where each one starts.
Leonardo calls itself “The Creator-First Generative AI Platform” on its home page, and leads with images: generating from prompts “or custom models, tailored to your aesthetic”, editing that keeps characters and composition, and upscaling for print. Video comes next, as bringing visuals “into motion”. It’s an Australian company that Canva bought in July 2024; TechCrunch’s report of the deal quotes Canva saying Leonardo would keep running independently.
Higgsfield calls itself, in its help centre’s What is Higgsfield? (updated 14 September 2026), “an AI-native creative suite”: its own tools for video production, keeping a character consistent and making ads, plus other makers’ models under one subscription.
From their own pages, read on 10 October 2026:
| Leonardo | Higgsfield | |
|---|---|---|
| Starts from | Images: generating, editing, upscaling, your own trained styles | Video and ads: Cinema Studio and Marketing Studio |
| Its own models | Lucid Origin and Lucid Realism (images), Motion 2.0 (video) | Soul (images) and Soul ID (a trained character) |
| Other makers’ video models | Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 and Turbo, Kling Omni, Seedance 2.5, FLUX 3 Video, MiniMax H3, Wan, Hailuo 2.3, LTX-2 | Seedance 2.5, Kling, Veo and more |
| Other makers’ image models | Nano Banana Pro, Seedream 4.5, GPT Image, FLUX.2 Pro and more | Nano Banana 2.1 and more |
| Your own style | Train your own model | Soul ID for a face; presets and effects for looks |
| Ads | Through its image and video tools | Marketing Studio (video ads from a product link) and Ads Studio (statics) |
| Apps | iPhone, iPad, Android, and Macs with an Apple chip | The website only |
| For developers and teams | An API and Teams plans | An API, MCP, a command line, and Canvas for teams |

Where Leonardo is the stronger choice
- Images first. If your work is mostly stills, such as concept art, product shots, characters or social posts, Leonardo’s tools are organised around them: generate with its own Lucid models or others, edit while keeping the character and composition, then upscale with its Universal Upscaler for print or large screens.
- A style of your own. Leonardo lets you train your own model on your pictures, so a brand look or an illustration style stays consistent across everything you make.
- A wide shelf of video models. Leonardo’s video models guide, updated on 10 August 2026, covers Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0, Kling Omni, Seedance, Hailuo, LTX-2 and its own Motion 2.0, and lists newer additions including Seedance 2.5, FLUX 3 Video, MiniMax H3 and Wan 2.6 and 2.7. It’s honest about each one’s blind spots, which makes it a good read whichever platform you use. It also notes that Sora 2 was removed from Leonardo in July 2026.
- On your phone and your Mac. Leonardo has an iPhone and iPad app that also runs on Macs with an Apple chip (macOS 13 or later, per its App Store listing), and an Android app. More on that in our guide to the Leonardo AI app on PC and Mac.
Where Higgsfield is the stronger choice
Higgsfield’s own guide, Which Higgsfield tool should I use? (updated 1 September 2026), maps its tools to jobs, and they show where it leans:
- Directing video. Cinema Studio gives “precise control over camera, lens, and light”, with multi-shot scenes and physics-aware motion.
- Ads without a shoot. Marketing Studio turns a product link or picture into a video ad in UGC, unboxing, tutorial or TV spot styles, with audio and lip sync.
- One face across a body of work. Soul ID trains a character from photos so the same face appears across pictures and video; AI Influencer builds a virtual creator.
- Agents and assistants. Supercomputer plans and delivers a whole project from a brief (on paid plans), and Higgsfield’s MCP lets Claude and ChatGPT make pictures and video on your account.
What Higgsfield doesn’t have is an app: its help centre says the website is its only official platform. Our guide to the Higgsfield desktop app question covers the official ways to give it its own window.
Using both, and keeping the work together
A common split is stills in Leonardo, motion and ads in Higgsfield. It works, but your work then lives in two accounts, two libraries and a downloads folder, and neither platform will hold the other’s.
That’s the gap we built BosOn for: a desktop app for Windows and Mac that keeps everything you make with AI in one library on your own computer, and finds a picture by what’s in it rather than its file name. It works with your Higgsfield plan and the Higgsfield API today, so it can run Higgsfield’s models and bring in what’s already in your Higgsfield account with one click. Leonardo doesn’t connect to BosOn; drop your Leonardo downloads in, or link the folder you save them to, and they sit next to everything else. What BosOn connects to is on our integrations page.

BosOn is independent and isn’t affiliated with Leonardo, Canva or Higgsfield. It’s in early access.
Which to choose
- Mostly stills, a consistent illustration or brand style, or work on your phone: start with Leonardo.
- Mostly video where you set the camera, or video ads from a product: start with Higgsfield.
- Comparing video models: both carry Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0 and Veo 3.1, so compare the tools around them, not the model list.
- Not sure: Leonardo’s app and site let you start free, and Higgsfield says you can sign up free with starter credits. Run one real project through each before committing.
Questions people also ask
Is Leonardo AI better than Higgsfield?
They lean different ways. Leonardo is built around images, with its own Lucid models, training your own model and an upscaler, and offers a wide range of video models. Higgsfield is built around video and ads, with Cinema Studio, Marketing Studio and Soul ID. Pick by whether you mostly start from a still or a shot.
Who owns Leonardo AI?
Canva. Canva announced it was acquiring Leonardo.Ai at the end of July 2024, and said Leonardo would keep running independently. The app's developer on Apple's App Store is still listed as Leonardo Interactive Pty Ltd.
Which video models does Leonardo AI have?
Leonardo's own video models guide, updated on 10 August 2026, covers Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 and its Turbo version, Kling Omni, Seedance, Hailuo 2.3, LTX-2 and Leonardo's own Motion 2.0, and says Seedance 2.5, FLUX 3 Video, MiniMax H3 and Wan 2.6 and 2.7 have been added. It says Sora 2 was removed in July 2026.
Does Leonardo AI or Higgsfield have an app?
Leonardo does: an iPhone and iPad app that also runs on Macs with an Apple chip, and an Android app. Higgsfield doesn't; its help centre says the website is its only official platform, with no desktop or mobile app.
Can I use Leonardo and Higgsfield together?
Yes. Some creators make and refine stills in Leonardo and animate or build ads in Higgsfield. They are separate accounts and libraries, so download what you keep from each into one place you control.
